AMan Returning in the Snowing Night is often seen as a romance but it is, in fact, a typically left-wing drama. It originates from a real story, and it directly faces the reality, boldly describes the miserable life of the people, and criticizes the evil social system, so it reflects strong spirit of the realism. It reveals the sharply class antagonisms in the period of the Republic of China, and shows the real oppression on the people and being poisoning in mentality. Wei Liansheng and Yu Chun are representatives of awakened people, and choose to escape as the way of resistance, which is failed. The tragedy is to alert the oppressed people, and encourage them to unite to overthrow the evil social system.
