摘要
随着认知心理学对回忆研究的日益深入,记忆闪回大量涌现于小说中,其文体特征随之呈现出前所未有的多样性和复杂性。然而,评论界对闪回的解读模式在整体上依然停留在以结构主义为核心的叙述学阶段,鲜见记忆机制与记忆表述之间关联的挖掘。鉴于此,本文整合Paul Werth的文本世界理论与Catherine Emmott的情景框架理论,并结合回忆的心理学实证研究,提出两种回忆体验模式以及其相应的认知文体学解读模型。笔者认为,记忆闪回并非单纯的思想引语,而是通过叙事表达,在读者脑中构建的一个指示空间;其不同于现实故事世界,却又在某种程度上与之相关联。这种关联性是记忆闪回的特征,也是解读记忆闪回的关键所在。据此,本文以英国作家勒卡雷《不朽的园丁》为例说明,通过分析回忆视角在不同世界之间的移动路径,深入挖掘记忆闪回的文本表征、读者心智表征、文体效果三者之间的关系,为小说人物心理分析以及阅读理解研究提供启示。
Under the influence of cognitive psychological studies on memory,modern novels have shown an increasing interest in memory delivery by using the technique known as memory flashback. This results in great diversity and complexity in its textual representation. However,literary research on memory flashback still follows the narratological tradition of structuralism,neglecting the connection between the cognitive mechanism of remembering and its textual forms. Based on empirical findings from cognitive research on memory,the paper integrates text world theory( TWT) and contextual frame theory( CFT),and proposes a cognitive stylistic model for interpreting different types of memory flashbacks. The paper points out that,rather than a type of thought presentation,memory flashback could be viewed as a deictic space constructed by readers based on their readings. It is different from,and also connected to,the actual story space. The paper illustrates this by adopting the model to the analysis of two memory flashbacks in John le Carré's The Constant Gardener,showing the dynamic nature of viewpoint during remembering,and the relation between textual representation,mental representation and stylistic effects. It is hoped that this model will benefit future literary psychoanalysis and cognitive studies on reading comprehension.
