The corrosion perforation of the ground gathering pipeline is one of the main problems that affect the safe production of oil and gas fields, A 20G crude-oil-transporting pipeline in a western oil field was corroded and perforated after one year usage, The present work analyzed its failure causes by the macro inspection, physical and chemical performance test and corrosion products characterization, Experimental results show that the causes of pipeline perforation lie in two aspects: first, the flow rate of its internal transmission medium is so small that aqueous medium is apt to accumulate at the bottom of the pipeline; second, the corrosive CO2, H2S, and formation water in the aqueous medium would cause corro-sion of pipeline, especially the high concentration of chloride ions can promote pitting nucle-ation and development, and then result in the pipeline perforation.
