A Pioneer in Reconstructing the History of Chinese Fiction——Comment on Professor ZHANG Yong "novels of Research on the Historical Evolution of Chinese"

张勇教授以人物形象之视角来剖析中国小说之演进与发展,抓住了小说古今演变之命脉,对明清以来的小说进行了"古今通观"式的研究。其研究带给学界很大启示,就是小说史的撰写也可以从人物类型的流变角度来进行。从这一学术角度而言,张勇教授的专著《中国小说古今演变研究举隅》可以说是重构中国小说史的先锋之作,具有重要的学术价值及里程碑意义。

Seizing the essence of ancient-to-modern evolution of Chinese novels, Prof. Yong Zhang analyzed the development of Chinese novels from the perspective of characters, and conducted an overall study on the novels since Ming and Qing Dynasties. His study brings the academia nontrivial inspiration that novel history can be written based on the flow of character types. In this academic regard, his work titled Case Studies on the Ancient-to-Modern Evolution of Chinese Novels, not only can be recognized as a pioneer reconstructing the history of Chinese novels, but also possesses vital academic value and milestone significance.
