Early days after Independence, The Philippines has still maintained the special tie with the United States, and continually followed the ＂the US first＂ foreign strategy. After the Macapagal came to power, the Asia- oriented foreign policy has been started and the relation between the Philippines and the United Stats has also been adjusted which allowed it to pay more attention on neighboring countries in Asia. Ultimately, the rise of nationalism is a main motivation that caused the Philippines to adjust its foreign policy toward Asia. Meantime, concerns of own security, and development of economy and society are all the factors affected its foreign policy. Therefore, the Macapagal Government has left deep imprint and rich heritage to future foreign policy in the Philippines.
