“To see them is to see double”:The Representation of Urban Landscape in Rae Armantrout's Poetry

蕾·阿曼特劳特出生于南加州海滨度假胜地圣地亚哥,并自1978年以来一直生活于此,但其诗歌中的城市景观描写却更多专注于散落在城市空间中庸常寡趣的街景或居家庭院,而非度假海滩或主题公园。本文拟从城市文化研究视角出发,以文本细读为依托,深入探讨其作品中的城市景观描写,以及深嵌于其中对美国社会文化的批判和诗学思想。

While Rae Armantrout was born, and has lived since 1978 in San Diego, the world-renowned resort city in southern California, the landscape depiction in her po- etry nonetheless focuses more on banal and bland cityscape such as the street scenes and backyards otherwise found scattered in the urban space rather than resort beaches or theme parks. Drawing on the studies of urban cultures and close reading, this paper aims to explore the representation of cityscape in Armantrout＇s poetry and her critique of American culture as well as her poetics deeply embedded therein.
