Lan Tianwei and Japan

从1899年赴日留学到1921年去世,蓝天蔚曾四次远赴日本。他在日本留学多年,与日本有着不解之缘。他不仅稔熟日语,也了解日本的风俗习惯。他结交了许多日本师友,其军事思想及主张也深受日本人影响。作为同盟会元老之一,他在日本期间为宣传革命作出了巨大贡献。他虽然日本师友众多,但痛恨日本政府劫夺中国主权,具有强烈的排日思想。他在辛亥起事及1912年初北伐期间,既受到部分日本友人的支持帮助,同时也受到日本政府的粗暴干涉与掣肘。他与日本的关系,可以说,有学习借鉴提高、有联合协作支持、有排斥提防斗争,也有忍让妥协无奈。

From studying in Japan in 1899 until his death in 1921, Lan Tianwei made four visits to Japan. He not only was fluent in Japanese but also knew Japanese society very well. He became acquainted with many Japanese and was deeply influenced by Japanese military ideas. As one of the senior members of the United League of China, during his stay in Japan, Lan contributed enormously to fomenting the revolution. Although he had many Japanese friends, he raged about Japan＇s violation of China＇s sovereignty and had strong sentiment against Japan. During the Revolution of 1911, he was held back by the Japanese government but at the same time received support from some Japanese friends. His relation with Japan is marked by close connection, conflicts, compromises and helplessness.
