Hu Chuan and Taiwan's Salt Administration in Late Qing Dynasty

胡传晚年曾在台湾任职近四年,并曾担任台南盐务总局提调兼办安嘉总馆,办理台南盐务。在出任盐务官员期间,胡传大力清理盐课,安排南盐北运,保障了晚清台湾盐务的正常运行。同时,他在不同时期对私盐所表现的不同态度,也展现了一位盐务官员的务实态度,进而表明盐业史的研究,在关注盐务制度的变革、上层的设计者外,也要关注中层的执行者,看到不同层面的人在历史发展中的作用,进而让盐业史研究变得更加丰满立体。

Hu Chuan held a post in Taiwan in his late life and worked in Tainan Salt Affairs Bureau. In the period of being a salt administration officer, Hu Chuan cleared up the salt tax in a big scale, arranged the transportation of salt from south to north, and thus guaranteed the normal operation of Taiwan salt administration in late Qing Dynasty. At the same time, his different attitude towards illegal salt at different time showed his pragmatism as a salt administration officer and also indicated that the research of salt history not only need to follow the reform of salt administration system and the top designers but also pay attention to the performers. To see the effect of people of different layer in the development of history w ill enrich the research of salt industry history.
