Cornell University Library advocates the idea of ＂promoting collection by use and collection being for use＂ in the develop- ment of special collection. The development history and current situation of its special collection resources, special collection con- struction methods, service mechanism of supporting teaching and research have certain representativeness in the first-class university libraries in the USA. Cornell University Library has a long-term perspective for the development of subjects, open mind of providing service for global scholars, service consciousness of embedding into teaching and research in special collection construction,which can provide inspiration and reference for special collection construction of the university library in China.
