Cultural Confidence and Theoretical Challenges: A Reflection on General Secretary Xi Jinping's Important Theme on Cultural Confidence

文化自信就是坚信中华民族文化的主体性、原创性、持续性,也就是对人民群众投身于改革开放实践的强大生命力的自信。随着中国国际地位的不断提升,承认文化差异性和提高中国的跨文化能力,是坚定文化自信的必要内容。同时,我们将以文化自信的姿态,迎接如何表述中国特色社会主义的文化特殊性本质和文化一般性本质的两大理论挑战。建设中国特色社会学,这两大挑战体现为,一方面要关怀中国本土知识的提炼和理论抽象,另一方面需要大力加强本土知识国际概念化的研究工作。

The concept of cultural confidence is meant to increase our belief and confidence in the subjectivity,original-ity,and resilience of Chinese culture,and it is also meant to confident about the force and power of Chinese people in carrying out market reforms.The rise of China in the world urges us to recognize the notion of cultural diversity and in-crease our own cross-cultural competence.At the same time,we must take a cultural confidence attitude towards two theoretical challenges,namely,successfully theorizing about both the cultural specificities and the cultural generalities of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Such challenges are reflected in the building of Chinese sociology,in ways in which local knowledge not only must be learned timely but it also must be codified by international standards in order to be spread to the world.
