陈其泰先生在他的中国史学史研究中,提出了从文化视角研究史学的新理念、新方向。这种研究,突破了传统的史学史研究中由于学科的特殊性而产生的就史书论史书的狭隘视野,从更深广的文化视野探求重要史学著作产生的时代背景、社会环境,同时反过来考察这些史著所产生的社会文化影响。这是一种史学史研究的新趋向,对于深化史学史研究和促进史学史学科为精神文明建设服务有其积极作用。

Chen Qitai proposes a new concept of researches on historiography from the perspective of culture. Such researches break through the narrow vision of considering the historical records by historical records because of the particularity of discipline in traditional researches on the history of historiography. From the perspective of culture, it explores the historical background and the social environment which the important historical works produce. And it in turn observes the social and cultural impacts of these works. This is a new trend of the research on the history of historiography, which has a positive effect on further researches on the history of historiography, and making this discipline to serve the construction of the spirited civilization.
