绅士参与义赈的原因分析——以“丁戊奇荒”为例

Analysis on the Cause of Gentleman's Participating in Charity Relief——A “Ding Wu Qi Huang” Case

"丁戊奇荒"时期正值中西文明交流、碰撞时期,绅士们参与义赈,这既与传统文化的影响有关,也有受到西方文化思想影响的因素。在传统文化与西方文化的撞击中,绅士们往往表现出矛盾心态:在借鉴西方赈灾机制的同时又对外国人赈灾误解、猜疑甚至与其展开竞争。在此围绕"绅士"这个主体,以赈灾思想为主要线索,运用文献研究法、定性分析法等考察绅士赈灾的原因。

The ＂Ding Wu Qi＂ Huang period was the time when Chinese culture exchanged and collided with western culture. That gentlemen involved in charity relief was influenced not only by traditional culture but also western culture. In the process of traditional culture＇s colliding with western culture, the gentlemen appeared paradoxically： to learn from Western relief mechanism while misunderstanding, distrusting, and even competing with foreigners. Focusing on the subject of ＂gentleman＂, the author takes the idea of charity as the main clue, and investigates the reasons by using methods of literature re- search and qualitative analysis.
