The influence of Cs^+ on activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in Hordeum vulgare seedlings was investigated. Hordeum vulgare seedlings were treated with 10.0, 20.0, 40.0 80.0 and 120.0 mg/L Cs^+ with various days. After 1, 3, 6 and 10 days treatments, respectively, activities of SOD and CAT were determined. The results showed that, activities of CAT and SOD increase at first with prolonged treatment under low concentrations of Cs^+ , then decrease after reaching a peak. Both activity curves exhibit parabolic shapes. On the other hand, high concentration of Cs^+ inhibits activities of CAT and SOD. Both activities line- arly decrease along with treating time. Overall, Cs^+ reveals strong physiological toxicity to Hordeum vulgare seedling. Activities of CAT and SOD of Hordeum vulgare seedlings are sensitive to Cs^+ pollution. Therefore, Hordeum vulgare seedling can be utilized as an indi- cator of Cs^+ pollution in environment monitoring.
