春秋时期的"叹"逐渐实现了"曰"的内容与"曰"的形式的分离,作为"曰"的内容,叹往往因为与礼结合,暗含文化背景,叹的行为发出者即是当事者本人,其维护的主要是与"叹"相关的礼,其所用是叹之"常礼";而作为"曰"的形式,叹的行为发出者未必是当事者本人,往往叹的对象才是当事者,其维护的是社会中普遍存在的礼,其所用是"叹"这一行为方式。春秋时期"叹"的文化生成与演变,是以"礼"为核心,目的在于维护"礼"。
