清咸丰8年（1858年）,天主教经济南一中国神甫传入烟台,此后意大利、法国等天主教会不断派神甫、教士、修女来烟台传教。自清光绪12年（1886年）起,天主教在烟台修建了多座教堂、修女院、修道院,雷斯修道院便是其中之一。修道院系拉丁文的意译,有时也译作＂神学院＂,简称＂修院＂,是天主教培养神甫的学院。芝罘区青年路50号,

In 1858 Catholicism was preached in Yantai via a Chinese priest at Jinan No.1 Middle School.Afterwards the Catholic Churches in Italy and France continuously sent priests,missionaries and nuns to Yantai to preach.Ever since 1886 many churches,convents and monasteries had been built by the Catholic Church,Leisi Monastery included.Situated at 50 Qingnian Road,Zhifu District,to the east of the north courtyard of Zhifu District Hospital,this square-shaped brick-wood structured monastery still stands here,with its story known by few people now.Leisi Monastery was built in 1900 by Bishop Cesaire Shang,a French Catholic bishop.In the monastery Latin,philosophy and theology were taught.Students could be promoted to be priests after graduation.At that time there were over 30 missionaries.
