On Incense Burner with Handle of Ancient China

长柄香炉是中国古代佛教活动中常用的焚香器具之一。一般由炉身、长柄、底座三部分组成,炉身呈高足杯式,随着时代的变更长柄末端的样式有所变化。本文以考古出土和传世的魏晋南北朝、隋、唐、辽、宋时期的长柄香炉为中心,根据文献记载考证其器名称,将考古发现的实物与同时期佛教石窟壁画、雕刻中的图像相对比,探讨长柄香炉起源、形制演变及其与香盒之间的组合关系。同时考察其对韩国、日本的影响。

Incense burner with handle was often used to burn incense burner in Buddhist ceremoniesin ancient China. In general,it was composed of three parts. The body was like a high-stemmed cup. Thestyle of handle changed with the times. This study is focus on relics of the Northern and SouthernDynasties, Sui Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Liao Dynasty and Song Dynasty. In particular, it will ascertain the names of the objects in historical records, compare the relics with image in Buddhist art,research on its origin, and examine the relationship between the incense burner and the incense box. Atthe same time,this paper will consider Korea and Japan＇s influence on incense burners in ancientChina.
