The Seated Buddha in Meditation with Hands in Dhyana-Mudra dated Sixteen Kingdomperiod(AD 304-439),which is now kept in the Tokyo National Museum,Japan, has always beenregarded as one of the important gilt-bronze Buddhist statues in the early period of China. However,afterlong-term comparisons and research, the author finds that there exist differences both in casting and thecharacteristics of style between this statue and all the other published guilt-bronze statues dated SixteenKingdom period. Thus, the author suggests that this statue from the Tokyo National Museum is most likelyan imitation made by a certain antique dealer of late Qing and early Republic of China, imitating thestatue now in the Fogg Museum of Harvard University,USA.
