Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva' s poetic cycle To Blok has attracted critical and scholarly attention since its premier publication in 1922. The cycle has been read as an important source of materials for the study on the relations between Tsvetaeva and another Russian poet Aleksandr Blok. However, the key to understanding this work, i.e.how the image of Blok was apotheosized, still remains understudied and unsolved. This article analyzes the semantics, metaphors, and subtexts in the poetic cycle in the context of the development of Russian Orthodoxy at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The author holds that Tsvetaeva transforms the Eastern Orthodox onomatodoxy into a poetic device that apotheosizes the image of Blok.
