The conflict between the spiritual pursuit of transcendence and the political commission is an integrated part in Chinese literati personality structure. They pursue the aesthetic transcendence of the crisis in political life through the writing strategy of making the subject invisible in the poetry. Chinese American poets are struck in the puzzle of cultural identity and they turn to traditional Chinese culture for spiritual resources which gives a new perspective to examine the appeal of eastern wisdom in cross cultural context.
