Watching Over Dunhuang

文章回顾了敦煌研究院建院70多年来,以常书鸿、段文杰、樊锦诗为代表的几代莫高窟人为敦煌石窟的保护、研究与弘扬事业做出的巨大贡献,讨论了敦煌研究院在敦煌石窟保护、敦煌学研究、敦煌石窟的传承弘扬等方面所面临的问题与挑战,并表示,敦煌研究院将继续扩大国内、国际合作的力度,与社会各界一道共同保护这份人类文化遗产。

This paper first reviews the great contributions to the conservation, research and promotion of Dunhuang Caves made by several generations of the Mogao people represented by Chang Shuhong, Duan Wenjie and Fan Jinshi since the inception of the Dunhuang Academy in 1940 s. It then discusses the problems and challenges encountered in the fields of cave conservation, Dunhuang studies, inheritance and promotion of Dunhuang caves, and demonstrates that the Dunhuang Academy will continue to expand and strengthen the domestic and international collaboration so as to jointly safeguard this precious cultural heritage of mankind.
