叶宁是新中国"中国古典舞"学科建设最初的领军人物,是1954年成立的北京舞蹈学校中国古典舞教研组的组长。叶宁于此时组织编写的中国首部《中国古典舞教学法》,是这一学科的奠基性著作。稍后,叶宁虽然离开了中国古典舞教学第一线,但仍然反思、关注这一学科建设中的重大问题,其中所著《谈整理研究中国古典舞蹈中的几个问题》就体现出其思考的深邃性和系统性。到了20世纪80年代中期,叶宁更是运用"比较文化"的方法,从更开阔的视野中来求索,对我们当下的"中国古典舞"的学科建设给予滋养和启迪。

Ye Ning is a leading figure in the initial stage of the discipline construction of Chinese classic dance in the New China period and Ye was also the director of the teaching and researching group of Chinese classic dance of Beijing Dancing School established in 1954. At that time, under Ye Ning＇s direction, the ground - breaking Chinese Classic Dance Pedagogy became a cornerstone of the discipline. Later, though Ye Ning left the frontline of Chines classic dance teaching, Ye still rethought and retrospected on the crucial issues in the discipline. Among these, On Several Issues of Filing and Studying of Chinese Classic Dance is embodied with Ye＇s profound and systematic thoughts. Until the middle of the 1980s, with comparative culture method, Ye carried out research from a broader perspective, nourishing and inspiring the current construction of the discipline of Chinese classic dance.
