基于语料库的《生死疲劳》中文化负载词英译研究

A Corpus Study of the English Translation of Culture-Loaded Words in Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out

采用语料库检索方法,基于莫言作品《生死疲劳》及其葛译本自建双语平行语料库,检索语料库中生态、物质、社会生活、宗教和语言等5类文化负载词115项,分析葛浩文所采取的英译策略及对文化传播产生的影响。研究发现,译者葛浩文在翻译过程中较多地采取直译、音译或音译加注的方法,极大地保留了源语特征,促进了原文化的传播,但同时也造成部分词语文化意象的流失。采用语料库的研究方法对文化负载词英译进行研究,可为文学作品的译介提供一些参考和借鉴。

Based on the self-built bilingual parallel corpus consisting of Mo Yan’s 《生死疲劳》and its English version by Howard Goldblatt,this paper explores 115 items of culture-loaded words from 5aspects, namely, ecological culture, material culture, social culture, religious culture and linguistics,and analyzes Howard Goldblatt ’s translation strategies and their influence on culture transmission. It reveals that literal translation,transliteration,transliteration plus explanation are widely adopted by Howard Goldblatt to survive characters of the original culture extensively and promote the spread of the original culture,in the process of which some cultural images get lost.Studies on the translation of culture-loaded words adopting the corpus-based method will provide some implications for the translation and introduction of literary works.
