On the Relationship Between Rong Hong and Zeng Guofan Embodied in My Life in China and America

作为第一个毕业于美国大学的中国人,容闳在近代中国洋务史和教育史领域,发挥过非常重要的影响力,而这一切均得益于晚清重臣曾国藩对他的提拔与任用。以对容闳自传《西学东渐记》的考察为基础,系统解读曾国藩对容氏的知遇之恩,以期丰富中国教育近代化进程中的人脉关系研究。

Rong Hong （Yung Wing）, the first Chinese student graduating from the American University, had an important influence on modem Chinese westernization history and the education history, which benefited much from Zeng Guofan who gave him big promotion and appointment. Based on Rong Hong＇s autobiography My Life in China and America, the paper illustrates systematically the relationship between them in hope that the study on personal connections in Chinese education modernization process can be furthered.
