英国当代剧作家汤姆·斯托帕的成名作《罗森克兰茨与吉尔德斯特恩已死》是对莎士比亚名剧《哈姆雷特》的改写,剧本通过两个从舞台边缘走到聚光灯下的小人物的死亡悲剧,颠覆了哈姆雷特人文主义英雄形象这一"中心",揭示了历史如何以英雄之名对普通人施加的权力控制,暗喻了战后英国一代青年人的"边缘感",折射出二战后英国的"英雄帝国"形象及其精神气质从中心走向边缘的衰落过程。
