[目的/意义]应用波兰尼知识学说揭示图书馆功能的实质。[方法/过程]借鉴英国学者波兰尼的知识学说对图书馆的功能进行文化解析,从显性知识与隐形知识相互转化过程和机理中揭示图书馆的功能。[结果/结论]图书馆是社会知识的集聚地,是社会知识的交流中心,其功能是对文化的启蒙、传承、传播、引领、创新;图书馆功能的最终实现就是履行图书馆的文化使命,引领文化传播的方式、方向,决定文化传播的品位、质量。

[Purpose/significance]The paper is to apply knowledge theory of Polanyi to reveal essence of library functions. [Method/process]The paper uses knowledge theory of Polanyi to make a cultural analysis on library functions, reveals library functions from mutual conversion process and mechanism between explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge. [Result/conclusion]Library is a gathering place and a communication center of social knowledge, its functions is the enlightenment, inheritance, dissemination, leading and innovation of culture. The ultimate realization of library function is to fulfill its cultural mission, to lead the way and direction of cultural dissemination, to determine the taste and quality of cultural dissemination.
