Objective:This study was to investigate the effect and clinical significance when Shikani Optical Stylet was applied in first aid intubation outside operating room.Method:One hundred and thirteen patients who received first aid intubation outside operating room of our hospital were divided into Group A(57patients)as the experiment group and B(56patients)as the control group.Shikani Optical Stylet was employed in Group A while conventional method of tracheal intubation was used in Group B.The physical position of intubation, the body position of patients, the duration, number of intubation times, success rate and the complications during intubation were all recorded for both groups.Result:The intubation position was more flexible to doctors with Shikani Optical Stylet than with the conventional intubation method, since the boyce position for the patients was not required and the intubation would succeed as long as the mouth opening is sufficient to enable the tracheal tampon pass through the glottis.Compared to conventional intubation method,Shikani Optical Stylet method eased the intubation process, shortened the time of intubation(P〈0.05)and increased both success rate for single intubation(P〈0.05)and total success rate(P〈0.05)and low complications(P〈0.05).Conclusion:Compared with traditional intubation methods,Shikani Optical Stylet method allowed faster, simpler and more effective intubation. It also facilitated minimizing the airway injuries.Hence,it is more suitable for first aid intubation outside operating room and worth promoting.
