This paper reviewed the definitions of nicotine dependence and addiction, evaluated the construction theory and methods of 11 common scales on assessing nicotine dependence, summarized the unique characteristics as well as commonalities of different scales, described the application of scales briefly, and forecasted the prospects of scales in future research of nicotine dependence.
