POVERTY often goes hand- bin-hand with a hostile environment. However, in the Kubuqi Desert （the seventh largest in China）, a miracle has happened. After intensive scientific management, one third of this vast stretch of infertile land has been reclaimed and is now blanketed with green and criss-crossed with highways.
