Japan's Activities in Qingdao During the Period of German Occupation(1897-1914)

自1897年德国租借青岛之后,日本虽然在此期间对青岛未有军事行动,但其政治和经济势力却在不断渗透。日本第一次世界大战前与青岛的贸易总额已经超过德国,跃居第一位,与此同时日本政界要员络绎不绝前往青岛进行考察,搜集情报。探讨德占时期日本在青岛的经济、政治等活动,有助于深入分析第一次世界大战期间日本出兵青岛的动因,对研究日本侵略青岛史也有重要意义。

After Germany took over Qingdao on lease in 1897,Japan took no military during this period but continuously infiltrated its political and economic power into Qingdao,where Japan had surpassed Germany in trading before WWI and had become the biggest trader in Qingdao. Meanwhile,important Japanese politicians frequently visited Qingdao to investigate and collect intelligence. The study on Japanese political and economic activities can facilitate both finding out why Japan invaded Qingdao during WWI and the study on the history of Japanese invasion in Qingdao.
