Study on the Great Contributions for Safeguarding the Sovereignty of Diaoyu Islands by the Diaoyu Islands Defense Campaign Overseas in 1970s

1970年代海外保钓运动从"学术保钓"和"行动保钓"两个层面对维护钓鱼岛主权作出了重要贡献。"学术保钓"在内容上可以分为两大类:一类是搜集钓鱼岛主权属于中国历史证据的文献资料,另一类是撰写相关文章,论证钓鱼岛主权属于中国。"行动保钓"是指保钓人士通过积极奔走呼号而为维护钓鱼岛主权所做的事情,如游行示威,联署致蒋介石、尼克松及美国国会议员公开信,进行参议院说服工作等。保钓运动展示了中华民族外御其辱的决心和力量,美国在交还琉球附带钓鱼岛给日本时不得不正视"民意",声明仅仅是"施政权"的移交,主权由中日两国自行解决。

In 1970s,the Diaoyu Islands Defense Campaign overseas made great contributions for safeguarding the sover-eignty of Diaoyu Islands from two aspects,namely a Academic Measures for Safeguarding Diaoyu Islandsr, and aPractical Meas-ures for Safeguarding Diaoyu Islandsr,. The a Academic Measures for Safeguarding Diaoyu Islandsr, can be divided into two cat-egories in accordance with respective content. One is to collect document literatures with historic evidences specifying that “ the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands belongs to China” , the other one is to write relevant articles that specifying that the fact. While the a Practical Measures for Safeguarding Diaoyu Islandsr,refer to all the contributions for safeguarding the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands that have been made by patriots through crying for help actively, such as parades and demonstrations, open letters with joint signatures to Jiang Jieshi, Nixon as well as American congressman, and lobbying the Senate. The Diaoyu Islands Defense Campaign has demonstrated the determination and strength of the Chinese people on resisting the disgrace from foreign invaders,thus US had to envisage the “ public opinions” when returning Liuqiu Islands and Diaoyu Islands to Japan. The statement is merely the transition of “ regimes” ; the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands shall be settled between China and Japan themselves.
