The famous painter Eugene Fromentin appears in the last volume of Schapiro＇s four-volume anthology Theory and Philosophy of Art.＂ Style. Aritist, and Society. The translator has quaoted Schwabsky＇s words to illustrate Schapiro＇s legendary. Before Fromentin, the world was immersed in Hegel and Taine＇s art philosophy, however, from Fromentin, all humanity revealed in art and the status of a critic could be perceived.
