Area Studies in India:A Case Study of Public Higher Education Institutions

地区研究是印度国际问题研究的主要内容。印度地区研究的学科设立和发展都由政府主导,学校和研究机构本身的自由空间相当有限;重视应用研究和实证研究,理论研究相对较弱,但理论的觉醒和反思已经出现;其研究覆盖地区范围广,每个地区都有数量不等的专家,但不同地区之间的比较研究还很少见;印度学者正积极谋求扩大在国际社会的影响力,包括学术影响力、毕业生国际化就业等。

Area studies constitutes the bulk of international studies in India.The Indian government dominates both the establishment and development of the disciplines of area studies,while the freedom for schools and research institutions is very limited.Practical and empirical studies are emphasized.Although theoretical studies are relatively weak,theoretical awareness and reflections have started to grow.Area studies in India also covers many regions,and for every region there are different numbers of experts.However,comparative studies of different regions are still rare.Indian scholars are proactively seeking international influence,including academic influence,internationalizing employment for graduates,etc.
