Metaphor and symbolism are the major characteristics and charming features in Robert Frost' s poetry. Through the clever use of metaphorical and symbolic means in his poetry, Frost gives an incisive inter- pretation of Nature and human existence. Through the implicit or symbolic similarities, Frost makes break- throughs in the accepted relations between the tenor and the vehicle by integrating two seemingly irrelevant ob- jects, and exposes the same nature of seemingly irrelevant things. His poetic masterpieces rich in metaphorical implications have abundant philosophical connotations, and integrate the natural landscapes with the popular phenomena of human society in seemingly simple poetic description, thus making the different elements of his poetry an organic whole and revealing the relations between man and nature, the dilemmas of human choices as well as the truth of human existence.
