西晋的挚虞在《文章流别论》中说:"古之诗有三言、四言、五言、六言、七言、九言。"这句话说明在中国古代诗歌史上存在一种名为"三言诗歌"的古体诗,三言诗歌不仅存在于中国诗歌发展史上,还形成了自己独立的诗体——三言诗体。前人学者对三言诗歌的研究虽多零散片面,但研究三言诗歌的界定与特征势必要在搜集整理前人研究的基础上。
