In Foreigners,a collection of biographical stories,Caryl Phillips raises and answers a racial ethical question: why are Turpin as a British native son and Oluwale as an immigrant from former British colony Lagos Nigeria regarded as inferior 'foreigners'who are racially discriminated against and persecuted?Through a literary rewriting of the miserable fates of Turpin and Oluwale,Phillips condemns the narrow minded racial tribal ideology in the postwar British society and awakens the conscience of the British people, hoping that Britain will one day become a real home for its colored citizens represented by the Black British.
