Old man of the sea, board-joint boat, flying fish and the sea are the Tao＇ s culture imag- es which Lanyu writers Siyapen jipengaya and Syaman Rapongan dedicate to describe in their writings. These images embody the Tao＇s emotion, imagination and spiritual belief, highlight the unique experi- ence and ethnic consciousness of the Tao group, contain the Tao＇ s view of life, values and world view. They become the important and essential symbols of the Tao＇ s culture. With the rich ethnic culture and ocean culture in writings, the Lanyu writers open the path to maternal cultural heritage, enrich the culture and expand the literature boundary of Taiwan ethnic minorities.
