本文从成长小说角度研究了美国黑人剧作家奥古斯特?威尔逊的最负盛誉的戏剧—?篱笆?。作者认为主人公特洛伊的成长综合包括了勇士精神的建立和家庭责任的承担两次重大觉醒以及逃避现实压力、从婚外情中求解脱的觉醒后的幻灭。受历史环境和社会约束的影响,特洛伊追求高贵的男子气概的梦想没有圆满实现,体现出"反成长"的特点。最后,本文借用文化理论探讨威尔逊如何在非洲裔美国人的宏大历史背景下融主人公的个人探索与集体觉醒、文化传承于一体并开拓美国成长小说新领域。
This thesis studies August Wilson's most acclaimed play - Fences in light of Bildungsroman or initiation stories and endeavors to generalize Wilson's distinctive style in initiation stories. Based on initiation theories of black critic Geta J. LeSeur and remarkable ideas of the Chinese scholar, Rui Yuping, the thesis makes an in -depth analysis of Troy Maxson's initiation in Fences. Troyg initiation is represented by a mixture of awakening of warrior spirit and familial responsibility and escapism from familial responsibility. Troy Maxson fails in his pursuit of a prestigious manhood due to historical milieu and social restraints. Therefore ,' Wilson's initiation stories reflect a trend of anti -bildung. There is a juxtaposition of self- search with collective awakening and the larger issues of the African American historical context which powerfully illustrates Wilson's contribution to African American initiation stories.
