Language Philology: From “Unimportant Knowledge” to“Very Important Knowledge”——A Comment on Language Life and Language Policy by Zhou Qing-sheng

中国的语言文字学传统上被称之为"小学"而不受重用。从宏观的学术视野、典型的个案剖析、深入的田野调查、详实的事实数据四个方面,评论周庆生的新著《语言生活与语言政策》,说明语言学具有"经世济民"的重大社会意义。

Chinese language philology has traditionally been called＂unimportant knowledge＂,so it is not greatly valued. This paper presents a review on the new book Language Life and Language Policy written by Zhou Qing-sheng from the perspective of macro academic studies,analysis of typical cases,in-depth field investigation and detailed data,aiming to reveal the great social significance of linguistics which is to make the society prosperous and stabilized.
