胶东沿海的鱼类中,劳板鱼是极富特点的一种。劳板鱼的体型独特。一般鱼类,呈梭形或碟形的居多,劳板鱼的体型有些另类。体盘宽大（小者二三十厘米,大者四五十厘米）。体型扁平,宽大于长,略呈斜方形,尾细如鞭,且有锐刺,那是它防身的武器。
