The following thesis pays close attention to the various forms of communication of the figures in Kleist's novella The Marquise of O...,whose common property can be considered as"less is more": in a changing process from the inadequate colloquial language to reliable printed letters, although the voice is turned off and the body excluded, the communication itself turns out to be successful. The elision of the unreliable narrator stimulates the reception. The medium changes from a part of the information-source to an independent messenger. In order to transfer the information in the best way,the best presence of a messenger is considered to be his absence. While transmiting the information, the messenger also produces his own message. The word not only describes the thing, but also defines it.
