Huckleberry Finn in Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has usually been taken as an ungra- ciously innocent boy, and his courage and determination of rescuing the Negro slave Jim has also been considered merely as a burst of passion from personal loyalty. However, it is not really the case. With the theoretical frame of Laurence Kohlberg's stages of moral development, Huck's behavior and psychology can be analyzed all through the six stages at the three levels as Pre-conventional Level, Conventional Level and Post-conventional Level, and the boy's mental process for his moral growth to nobility can be revealed.
