Ian Mc Ewan is one of contemporary novelists with the strong social sense of responsibility. The image of Perowne,the main character in the novel Saturday,vividly shows the British public＇s mental health and ethical orientation while the terrorist atmosphere is becoming overwhelming and domestic situation is growing unrest at the turn of the century. By presenting the＂condition of England ＂and confusion、anxiety and various ideological crisis of the protagonist,Mc Ewan makes a reflection about the current situation of British society and expresses his concern for Britain＇s future.
