Objective To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of aerosol inhalation of Xiyanping for pediatric bronchiolitis. Methods The Cocharane library, Embase, Pubmed, CNKI, VIP and Wanfang data(from the foundation date to March 2016) were searched for randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of Xiyanping aerosol inhalation for bronchiolitis in children. The methodological quality and Meta-analysis of the included trails according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria were assessed. Results Eleven randomized controlled trials were included, totally 1068 children(550 in the observation group and 518 in the control group). The combined analysis showed that the total effective rate, and the disappearing time of cough, wheeze and dyspnea in the Xiyanping group were better than those in the control group, with significant difference(P 〈 0.01). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions in the 2 groups(P 〉 0.01). Conclusion For pediatric bronchiolitis, Xiyanping aerosol inhalation is better than the controls in the efficacy in current study. Randomized controlled trials with large samples and high quality methodology are needed to confirm these results.
