Invisible Man,African-American writer Ralph Ellison's masterpiece,is discussed by many literary critics that it is beyond the black literary tradition and not confined to combat racial discrimination, but revealing the personal values universally. This paper probes the secrecy of characterization and rhythm in the novel based on Frank Kermode's 'theory of secrecy ',and concludes Invisible Man is still a 'Protest Novel',but the intention is hidden,or uncontrolled by the author, that is,in the sub-consciousness of the author. No human rights, not being accepted,it does not make any sense to argue the value of existence.Allison's satire with the tone of self- mockery is worth interpreting deeply.
