In his book A Dialogue Between Redology And History Of The Qing Dynasty, Yi-long Huang made a textual research on some important issues about redology by way of e-textual criticism. He pro posed to use e-textual criticism for the transformation of redology as well as literary and historical research, which is an important innovation in material finding, historical event research, and academic methodolgy. This paper, starting from traditional literary and historical studies, maintains that the advantage of e-textual criticism lies in digging out all the related materials and making a highly efficient textual research. But it a technical innovation rather than a transition of paradigm, having limitations in methodological validity. Viewing from redology, Huang dealt properly with the relationship between textual research and index, between reality and virtuality, fairly and evidently. But Huang failed to challenge the existing framework and presupposition, and failed to settle the paradigm in redology. This paper maintains that in the era of big data e-inter-text research path might become the upgrade of e- textual criticism, being a joint point of digital humanities and notes and commentaries of traditional texts.
