Domestic Violence and The Construction of Female Consciousness in Alice Munro's Short Story Dimensions

诺贝尔文学奖获得者加拿大女作家艾丽丝·门罗塑造过许多女性角色,在从传统家庭主妇形象到具有很强自我意识的独立女性的转变中,探索男权社会下受压抑的女性逐步觉醒,构建女性意识的过程。短篇小说《空间》中的多丽,结束了一段充满暴力的失败婚姻,经历从一度精神恍惚失常到重拾生活信心的蜕变。多丽逐渐实现的自我肯定,正是不断自审和探索的结果。文章通过分析《空间》中女性多莉在家庭暴力环境下的成长经历探寻其女性意识的构建。

Alice Munro, the famous Canadian short story writer, as known as the Nobel Prize for Literature Win- ner, has created multiple female characters whose gradual self-discovery in the suppressing patriarchal society is explored, showed from the visual angle of her growth process from a traditional housewife image to an indepen- dent person with strong self-awareness. Doree in Dimensions, passed through a difficult period after her painful marriage broke down, experienced a transformation from selflessness to self-discovery. The paper attempts to trace the construction of female consciousness through an analysis the growing experience of the heroine Doree.
