Relevant studies show that the Chinese Miànzi is socio-culturally characterized and liable to be explicitly represented, compared with the notion of face, which is differently interpreted by Westerners, and which is implicitly represented. Thus, the Politeness-face model proposed by Brown and Levinson fails to provide an overall, suitable account for this culture-specific Chinese Miànzi. It is demonstrated that the Chinese Miànzi is sensitively affected by various factors, being social, cultural and cognitive in nature. This article aims at exploring the inner correlatedness of these affecting factors and its motivations behind for the explicit Miànzi representation in the Chinese culture from the social-cultural-cognitive dimensions by adopting a method of Formal Concept Analysis.
