长沙地名源流考

Research on the Origin and Development of the Place Name Changsha

长沙,上古为三苗国地,后为越人所居,得名"沙"。西周初得名长沙,为扬越部落方国名。行政区划历有长沙、湘、临湘、抚睦之称。隋文帝开皇九年(589),改临湘县为长沙县,为长沙县名之始。县、郡国治,皆同城而治。境内历史文化深厚,皆有渊源可考。

Changsha once belonged to Sanmiao nationality in ancient times. Later it became a region inhabited by Yue nation and got its name Sha. During the Western Zhou Dynasty it was named Changsha,being the name of the Yangyue tribe. The administrative division was once named Changsha,Xiang,Linxiang and Fumu.
