Between Legitimate and Illegitimate: Probing into Women's Entertainment from Mahjong in the Period of Republic of China

民国时期,不同社会阶层的女性都不同程度地参与到娱乐游戏中,其中麻将是民国时期女性追求的娱乐之一。对大多数的麻将女人来说,她们把生命大量地浪费在麻将桌上,与其说她们没有雄心斗志,不如说她们还未找到正确通往未来的"路"罢了。在民国的城市化发展进程中,人们的生活质量在迅速提升,但就女性生活而言,她们仍然没有一片真正属于自己的"天空"。

In the period of republic of China,women of different social classes have different levels of participation in entertainment games,and Mahjong is an entertainment pursuit for them. For most women playing Mahjong,they put a lot of life wasting at the mahjong table. It seems that they do not have much ambition to fight; however,it is more accurate to say that they have not yet found the right 'road'to the future. In the rapid urbanization process in republic of China,people's life quality has been improved quickly;however,as for women's life,they have not own the 'sky'really belonging to them.
