张元从巴黎美术学院宾卡斯工作室学习回国后接任中央美术学院材料工作室,开始了在材料艺术领域卓有成效且具有创新意义的研究与探索,在绘画语言研究方面做了诸多尝试。他认为,对绘画规律的研究与探索是基于对绘画本体演化规律的认识和对绘画重要语言关系的认识。工作室经过近二十年的发展,在我国材料艺术学方面走出了一条独特的道路,积累了宝贵的经验,同时实现了他对艺术理想的不懈追求。
